Alfa-Rack has been one of the most successful forages ever offered by The Whitetail Institute. Alfa-Rack is a blend of specifically selected grazing alfalfa varieties and Imperial Whitetail Clover. It is designed for well-drained soils such as upland soils, hilltops, hillsides and sandy soils.

Alfa-Rack contains alfalfa varieties that have very deep taproots, which can amazingly grow 20 FEET DEEP. Therefore, Alfa-Rack is already highly drought resistant. Improved drought resistance, however, is something that can always make a better food plot. The key X-9 Alfalfa Technology is blended incorporated into plant breeding. While each of the grazing alfalfas found in Alfa-Rack Plus have individual strengths, alone they cannot supply all of the vital characteristics needed in a quality alfalfa-based food plot. Instead, each alfalfa variety comprising the X-9 Alfalfa Technology blend contributes qualities that, when combined, produce an alfalfa blend with unbeatable characteristics. X-9 Alfalfa Technology makes Alfa-Rack Plus easier and faster to establish than traditional alfalfa varieties. X-9 Alfalfa Technology makes Alfa-Rack Plus re-grow faster when browsed and produce more total yield than traditional alfalfa varieties. X-9 Alfalfa Technology makes Alfa-Rack Plus more attractive and more digestible to deer. The new X-9 technology also increases the longevity, or life, of the food plot. It does this by targeting factors that typically contribute to the death of a food plot.

Alfa-Rack Plus is extremely cold and heat tolerant. Alfa-Rack Plus is also much more disease resistant than traditional ag Alfalfa seeds. This enables Alfa-Rack Plus to not only have a longer life span, but also offers a food plot option in parts of the country where traditional alfalfas would have difficulty growing due to a tendency for disease problems.

Alfa-Rack Plus has also been enhanced by the addition of chicory. Chicory is a highly drought tolerant plant that is attractive to deer, especially in late summer and early fall. Chicory, like alfalfa, is very high in protein. In fact, protein levels in chicory can reach as high as 46 percent. Chicory has received a lot of press lately in terms of being used in food plots. But be warned, food plots of chicory alone have many limitations and not all chicory varieties work well for deer food plots. There are many varieties that are not as attractive to deer. The chicory used in Alfa-Rack Plus has been tested thoroughly and chosen specifically based on deer attraction and nutrition. With the addition of chicory, Alfa-Rack Plus has become even more drought tolerant than the original Alfa-Rack. Again, this enables Alfa-Rack Plus to be planted in a wider geographic range and be more effective. If you want an alfalfa based food plot, Alfa-Rack Plus is simply the best choice, add some to your deer management program today.

THERE'S CLOVER, AND THEN THERE'S GENUINE NEW ZEALAND RED AND WHITE CLOVER. AND THEN THERE'S DEER.
Few plants are more effective at attracting whitetail and turkey than clover. Use Clover Plus — a perennial blend of our New Zealand Red and White clovers with our extremely successful varieties of chicory — and you turn that attraction into an obsession. Our New Zealand clover has been genetically developed to produce larger, more succulent leaves and thinner stems for higher nutritional value and improved digestibility. The chicory provides appealing forage during critical months of whitetail growth and development. Both clover and chicory are extremely hardy and drought-resistant, yielding consistent production through the hot months of summer. It’s a combination of high nutrition, delicious taste and robust growth that deer can’t resist and nature can’t beat.

Clover Plus is best planted by spreading on a well-prepared seedbed at 9 lbs. per acre, then using a cultipacker to cover the seed. Broadcasting on a well-prepared seedbed just prior to rain also produces an excellent stand — the rain serves to bury the seed the appropriate depth (1/4 inch) and ensures adequate soil moisture for germination. Disking is not a recommended method of covering the seed as it would bury the seed too deep for germination. 5 lbs. per acre is recommended for existing perennial stands.

In the south, plant Clover Plus in early fall, as soon as soil moisture is sufficient for seed germination. Spring planting isn’t recommended; frequent summer drought conditions could limit root growth.

In the north, plant Clover Plus in the spring when soil temperature is 50° or higher and soil moisture is sufficient. Fall planting isn’t recommended; frost may occur before root systems are established. This blend can also be frost-seeded in the spring.
